‘Grand Theft Auto 5’ News: Researchers Uses GTA 5 To Train Driverless Cars
"Grand Theft Auto 5" gets into another news today, and now, it is about the real-world and modern technology. The "GTA 5" game is now used by the researchers to train driverless cars.
Driverless cars are seeing to run on the US real road by the year 2020. Simulating or training Artificial Intelligent driver on the real road are said to be riskier and consume so much time and cost. Seeing the "Grand Theft Auto 5" as the best platform for the simulations, researchers didn't hesitate to use the game.
The news was first reported by the Bloomberg saying it turns out that the "Grand Theft Auto 5" is one of the simulators that are being used to drill driverless cars and help teach them how to respond in case of an unplanned event on the real road.
The simulations started last year when the scientists from Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany and Intel Labs discovered a method that pulled visual information from "Grand Theft Auto 5" game. As the source cited, researchers are deriving algorithms from the "GTA 5" software that's been tweaked for use in the burgeoning self-driving sector.
Also, according to Professor Alain Kornhauser of Princeton University who advises its Autonomous Vehicle Engineering team, the "Grand Theft Auto 5" is the richest virtual environment that we could extract data from.
You might have played the "Grand Theft Auto 5" game, driving different vehicles on the city highway with a lot of pedestrians you love to hit and run. You might also notice and amaze on the way the other in-game cars react on every in-game situation.
Currently, the Rockstar "Grand Theft Auto 5" is equipped with 262 different types of vehicles, and plenty of pedestrians and animals that will do almost anything. There are also 14 weather conditions, plenty of bridges, traffic signals, tunnels, and intersections. It's really the perfect training ground for the driverless cars.
