British pop star Ed Sheeran will drop in the Seven Kingdom as a guest star for HBO's "Game of Thrones" Season 7. The show's producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss broke the exciting news Sunday during a panel at SXSW. They also confirmed that the upcoming season will only have six episodes instead of the previously announced seven.

"For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it," Entertainment Weekly quoted Benioff as saying during the South by Southwest Film Festival held in Austin, Texas. The huge fan, Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark, and Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark, moderated the conversation last weekend. A spokesperson for HBO also confirmed the news but left the details about the singer's role on "Game of Thrones" Season 7 undisclosed.

The 26-year-old "Shape of You" crooner acknowledged the revelation himself when he tweeted, "Guess the cats out the bag." Other musical artists who made cameo roles on the hit TV series include Will Champion of Coldplay, Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, Of Monsters and Men, Mastodon and Sigur Rós. Noah Syndergaard of New York Mets will also make an appearance for the upcoming season.

Ed Sheeran considered himself a "massive, massive" fan of "Game of Thrones." He revealed through a radio interview with "The Cooper Lawrence Show" on 106.1 WBLI that he even played his then unreleased "Divide" album to the cast Kit Harington, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner and Alfie Allen when they walked into his house in January. The hitmaker certainly has a lot going on for his fans this year apart from a surprise appearance for "Game of Thrones" Season 7 which will kick off July 16.

His new album just became the biggest this year has ever seen so far with 451,000 album units in just a week since "Divide" hit the market. He also won the Best Lyrics Award for "Love Yourself" sung by Justin Bieber and would appear for this year's Comic Relief telethon broadcast where he became an emotional wreck.
