'Fifty Shades Darker' Banned in India; Bad Reviews to Blame?

To those who are living in India, seeing Fifty Shades Darker might only be a fantasy. The latest report revealed that CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) banned the erotic film in the country.

Unless one is living under a rock, Fifty Shades Darker is the second installation to E.L. James' trilogy that features an intimate and BDSM-themed relationship between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The film stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson while House of Cards director James Foley directed the sexy flick.

Fifty Shades Darker contains scenes that are not appropriate to the young people; hence an R-18 rating. But, just like the first film Fifty Shades of Grey, the cast and crew are already expecting the ban.

There were rumors that the reason is due to its poor reviews. After the release, many of the film critics frankly stated their opinion about Fifty Shades Darker. In one instance, Rotten Tomatoes gave the film only 9%. But still, the film became a big hit in cinemas.

The Quint states that the CBFC sees "no humor in being horny." The people behind Fifty Shades Darker had the option to opt out the sexy scenes but in the end, they did not dispute the coalition's decision. Here's what the source from the film center said:

"Fifty Shades Darker stands banned. Even in the U.S., it was granted an 'R' rating and in the U.K. it was given an '18' rating. In India, we do not have 'R' or '18'. The closest we have to these ratings is a 'PG' which is not suitable for a film based on the subject of sex," the site quotes. "Universal has the option of removing the sex scenes in Fifty Shades Darker as they were removed in Vietnam. But Universal prefers not to release the film in India."
