Lee Min Ho Tops The 'Hallyu Star of the Year' Survey, More Celebrities Are On The List
Actor Lee Min-ho, actress Song Hye-kyo and boy band EXO have been chosen as the most popular "Hallyu" stars of 2016, as per a survey resulted on Thursday. The survey is conducted by the Soompi, a US-based online publication which is well known for providing Korean pop culture to its viewers. The online publication announced the winners of the 12th Annual Soompi Awards. The result declared after getting votes by Hallyu fans from 139 nations across the world. Hallyu refers to the global boom of Korean Pop music, TV series, and movies.
In the election process, Lee Min-ho was elected as the Actor of the Year by beating the main leads of "Descendants of the Sun" and "Love in the Moonlight" Song Joong-ki and Park Bo-gum. On the other hand, Song Hye-kyo won the Actress of the Year title by beating singer and actress Yoona from Girl's Generation who starred in the TV drama series named "The K2."
Besides, the actor Lee Min-ho, the band group EXO bagged the best Male group award over BTS who won the Album of the Year awards for its second LP "Wings" and its main track "Blood, Sweat, and Tears." EXO made big hits on music charts with the latest number "Lotto," "Lucky One," "For Life" and "Monster." TWICE bagged the best girl group Award for their popularity of "Cheer UP" and "TT."
In addition to this, the best Male Solo goes to Taemin from the boy's group SHINee and the best female solo award goes to Taeyeon from the Girls' Generation. Female group Wonder Girl got the best pop song award for their track "Why So Lonely" and BewhY received the best Rap and Hip Hop song award for "Forever." Celebrities like Jay Park and Lee Min-ho who were not able to attend the award function shared their happiness to cheer up their fans.
