EXO Wins Big At 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards
Many of South Korea's talented bands and singers recently converged to honor some of the industry's most talented musicians in the 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards. EXO was one of the event's big winners with the Kpop group receiving five awards.
EXO even brought home some of the major prizes during the 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards. Held on Feb. 22, Wednesday, the Kpop group nabbed two of the quarterly Artist of the Year awards for best album sales for the second and third quarters of 2016, according to Korea Herald. Other boy bands who received the same honor included GOT7 who landed the first quarter Artist of the Year award, while BTS grabbed the fourth quarter prize.
Apart from said award, EXO was also recognized as the fans' Artist of Choice for a Kpop group. Meanwhile, fans chose the said group's band member Sehun as their Artist of Choice in the individual category. Lastly, the band's writer Jo Yoon Kyung was also awarded the Songwriter of the Year honor.
EXO may have received the most number of awards during the 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards although Kpop groups such as BTS, TWICE and BLACKPINK also nabbed several honors. In total, BTS brought home four awards, while TWICE and BLACKPINK landed three honors each.
In other news, EXO was name dropped by a British band as the Kpop group that they would like to collaborate with. Clean Bandit recently visited South Korea and held a special interview with Warner Music Korea, as cited by All Kpop, where they gushed over the said boy band.
When the British trio was asked if they had any singer or band they would like work with for a future project, they mentioned EXO and even extended an informal invite to the Kpop group. Clean Bandit singer Jack stated, "Maybe we can do a collaboration with those guys if they were interested."
At this time, it is unclear if the said British band and EXO will indeed work together on a collaborative piece. Neither of the two group's agencies or representatives have commented on the said news.
