The Writers Guild of America had started on 1954 and since then, the prestigious labor union had continued awarding the most notable people. Last Sunday night, they held their annual award at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and it includes several known filmmakers such as Barry Jenkins and Donald Glover.

Of all the screenplays, the most recognized one is the "Moonlight". It is a poetic story that centers on a gay black youth in Miami. So far it has been nominated for eight Oscars, as Los Angeles Times reported, and one of which includes the best picture. Meanwhile, it has snatched the award for original screenplay, taking over "Hell or High Water," "Loving," "Manchester by the Sea," and the famous "La La Land."

Director and writer Barry Jenkins took the stage to accept the award given to "Moonlight", telling the crowd a meaningful message. "A lot of people back home are watching this and they see me doing these things and they get inspired. But what I want to say is, I can't say that writing will get you from where you are to this stage, but my experience is that it will get you closer to who you are."

Aside from the phenomenal "Moonlight" by Barry Jenkins, Donald Glover's Atlanta has also taken several awards such as "Comedy Series" and "New Series".

Atlanta, an American comedy TV series stars, talks about two cousins driving their way to the Atlanta rap scene. This is to help their lives and their family's as well, to become better. Starting just last year, the show has already garnered several awards such as two Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series and Best Actor for its lead character, Glover.

"This Is Us," "Sesame Street," "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and "Arrival" also took their awards from the recent Writers Guild Awards.
