The most-awaited Valentine's film of the year "Fifty Shades Darker" has received the most pummelling reactions from critics and the moviegoers themselves. Nevertheless, critics have claimed that the movie is a lot more a laughing-stock than a legit movie as it is.

For some critics, "Fifty Shades Darker" was viewed as the movie trying to tackle the psychological concept of those whose sexual preferences are BDSM methods. The movie tackled the sexual history of the man protagonist, Christian Grey and tries its best to explain his fascination over being a dominant or a sadist at some point. It took into consideration what his reasons were for finding pleasure in inflicting pain towards his partners or submissive, up until Anastasia Steel came into her life. He no longer wanted contracts, dominance, and submission; rather he wants what he calls a "vanilla relationship" with the woman.

However, not every one of the critics sees the psychological concept that the movie represents or is trying to discuss. It is mostly just a romantic film with a reason to include emphasizing the sexual beings of the characters. Initially, "Fifty Shades" trilogy author E.L. James wrote the book franchise as a fan-fiction story was solely on the storyline of Bella and Edward in "Twilight" that surprisingly enough got so much attention from the fans that it turned into a movie franchise as well. He merely transformed the teenage characters of the vampire-fiction book and turned them into adults of normal human beings with a fetish for inflicting pain for sexual pleasure, and the ability of love to have the strength to change a man. The way it sounds, it does indeed smell greatly towards hopeless romantics.

It has been said that watching "Fifty Shades Darker" was an experience in and of itself, there was so much concept into the movie that was centered on the characters' ability to separate sexual pleasure from their everyday lives. That has also been one of its struggles, the source of having mixed reviews about its entirety. Nevertheless, it still got box-office response from die-hard fans of the book and movie franchises alike.
