Despite being considered a multi-millionaire already, former One Direction member Niall Horan opted to try to travel like a normal person on a budget and not some star that he is. Thus, he shares his experience as he was backpacking through Southeast Asia last year.

23-year-old One Direction member Niall Horan spent his time off quite well since the band has been confirmed to be on hiatus. He took a break from show business, tours, fans and the like as he traveled through different countries along with his cousins. On top of that, he even traveled on a budget and not hoarding his millions of dollars. According to the singer, he wanted to feel the real travel experience without having treated with all the riches in the world. Thus, he went backpacking with his cousins through Southeast Asia with only 20 pounds (around $25) a night.

During an appearance he made at the "Chris Evans Breakfast Show" on BBC Radio 2, he shared about his incredible experience while traveling on a budget. According to the singer, he went around Thailand, Philippines, and Indonesia in a span of six weeks while keeping it on a budget. It was a brilliant experience and one of the best ways to live the lives, practice the culture of different countries. Horan initially hinted his interest in a backpacking trip sometime last year. Although he and his friends got to travel the world through their tours, it was a different kind of experience for the singer.

For now, since Once Direction is currently on hiatus, Horan is currently writing for his upcoming album that he intended to be released in the summer. He will be performing at the Tower of London for the final Radio 2's 500 words writing competition. When asked what his advice would be to the young writers, he simply said to let the words flow where they are intended to be and to write it down as they go along.
