"London Has Fallen" actor Gerard Butler joins the action pic "Snow Ponies" with "John Wick: Chapter 2" veteran Darrin Prescott. He is back in action with the lead while work continues developing the third film in the "Has Fallen" franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Snow Ponies" marks the feature directorial debut of second-unit veteran Prescott, who is represented by WME and McCormick. Butler will play in an undisclosed lead role as the production is still under wraps.

The story of "Snow Ponies" follows a crew of seven hardened men who travel across a vicious, difficult landscape to deliver a mysterious package, Deadline reported. They are forced to choose between survival and honor, loyalty and deceit when they met brutal obstacles and murderous bandits at every turn. All the while, they are wondering what secrets their precious cargo might contain.

The "Snow Ponies" script was featured on the 2006 version of the Black List and was written by Pat Healy, who is repped by The Gersh Agency and Luber Rocklin. Sierra/Affinity is financing the project and will introduce it out to buyers at the European Film Market this month.

Kelly McCormick will produce "Snow Ponies" with 87eleven, with Butler, Alan Siegel, and Danielle Robinson producing via their G-BASE production company. Sierra's Nick Meyer and Marc Schaberg will executive produce, along with Healy and Bryan Brucks. WME Global and CAA are co-representing domestic on the film.

Butler is coming off the action sequel "London Has Fallen," which grossed $205M worldwide, with nearly 70% of the total coming from overseas. He currently is shooting STX's heist thriller "Den of Thieves," also starring Pablo Schreiber, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, and O'Shea Jackson Jr. He has Geostorm set for an October bow and is represented by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment.

The production of "Snow Ponies" is set to begin this year with the principal photography planned for later this year.
