'Power Rangers' Movie Reboot Cast Confirms Dacre Montgomery As Red Ranger; Shortlist Revealed!

Earlier this month we reported about Naomi Scott being cast in upcoming "Power Rangers" movie reboot as the Pink Ranger. Now, the Instagram account of the film announces actor Dacre Montgomery to lead the team as Red Ranger according to Tokusatsu Network.

Jason Lee Scott - aka the Red Ranger - was originally played by former actor Austin St. John, appearing in 4 TV series and in the film feature of the popular superhero franchise. Jason is described as a martial artist from the fictional town of Angel Grove in CA, selected by Zordon and Alpha 5 along with his friends Zack, Billy, Trini and Kimberly to save Earth from the evil forces of Rita Repulsa.

Meanwhile, young actor Dacre Montgomery - who is now included in the cast of "Power Rangers" movie reboot playing the lead role - is considered to be one of the new faces in the movie scene. He debuted in 2010, being known for his roles in short film "Bertrand the Terrible" and TV movie "Family Tree Pilot Trailer" according to the information from IMDB.

However, how Montgomery got the role of Red Ranger is still a mystery for the time being. Lionsgate began testing potential actors to be included in the cast of "Power Rangers" movie reboot. Three actors have been shortlisted for the role of Red Ranger - K.J. Apa ("Shortland Street"), Austin Butler ("The Shannara Chronicles") and Mitchell Hope ("The Descendants"). Montgomery is not included in the official shortlist according to an earlier report from Screen Rant.

American actress Stephanie Scott was also included in the shortlist for the role of Pink Ranger which was later given to Naomi Scott. Meanwhile actors Daniel Zovatto, Ross Butler and Brian "Sene" Marc have been shortlisted for the role of Black Ranger. No information yet it given for the roles of Billy and Trini.

The upcoming "Power Rangers" movie reboot will be released on Jan. 13, 2017 under Lionsgate and Saban Entertainment.
