2016’s Top 10 Best-Selling KPOP Albums
2016 was a good year for the KPOP industry. And to give a quick summary of how successful some of the KPOP artists for past year are, here's a list of the top 10 best-selling KPOP albums for 2016 as recorded by Gaon Music Chart.
On number 10, we have 'Flight Log: Turbulence' by GOT7. It recorded a total of 225,617 sales.
On number 9, we have 'LOTTO' (Korean) by EXO. It recorded a total of 232,564 sales.
On number 8, we have 'EX'ACT' (Chinese) by, still, EXO. It was able to record a total of 247,899 sales.
Then we have 'Lose Control' by 'Lay' on number 7 with total sales of 274,238 copies.
Next is 'Hey Mama!' by, once again, EXO, on number 6 which sold 275,191 copies.
On number 5, we have 'TWICEcoaster: LANE 1' by 'TWICE'. It was able to record a total of 350,852 sales which made them the highest-selling girl group in all of Gaon chart's history. They are, in fact, the only girl group who made it to this year's top 10.
On number 4 is 'BTS' with 'Young Forever'. The said album was able to sell a total of 368,369 copies.
On number 3, we have 'For Life' by, again, EXO. It was able to record a total of 438,481 sales.
Landing on the 2nd spot is still 'EXO' with their 'EX'ACT (Korean)' album. The said album was able to sell 549,378 copies.
Now on the top spot, we have 'BTS' with 'Wings', which recorded an impressive 751,301 total sales.
Although EXO failed to make it to the first spot this year (they were number 1 for the past 3 years), they still hold the record for the best-selling artist if you consider the total sales from all their releases this year.
Gaon Music Chart is, by the way, the most influential and the largest Korean music charts of today. Is it compiled by the Korea Music Content Industry Association and sponsored by the country's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Its main purpose is to create a national chart for the country's music industry like the United States' Billboard charts and Japan's Oricon charts.
