iPhone 8 Specs, Design & Features: Apple Reviving iPhone 4’s All-glass Cover To Support Wireless Charging; ‘Pokemon Go’-inspired Technology Will Be Adapted
Hundreds of thousands of tech geeks are now excited for the imminent release of the iPhone 8. Now, new reports are claiming that the upcoming Apple smartphone is going to have all-glass front and back.
DigiTimes claimed that iPhone 8 is going to abandon its aluminum cover to feature all-glass panes with a mental frame at the center. The news outlet has added that the steel frame center will be made up of stainless steel to cut cost and hasten the manufacturing time.
In other words, Apple might be rebooting its iPhone 4 that is also known for its all-glass cover design. Apple's iPhone 4 used a stainless steel frame also supplied by Foxconn and Jabil," the news outlet stated.
"Sources from the upstream supply chain pointed out that the cost of the forging process is 30-50% cheaper than the current unibody CNC machine process, while quality control is also more stable," DigiTimes added on. One possible reason why Apple decided to bring back the all-glass design and abandon the metal is because it can transmit better signal.
Despite being more breakable than metal, CNet claimed that this is more suitable for the rumored wireless charging feature of the iPhone 8. It added that if Apple is really using an all-glass design, then, it is possible that the home button will be directly connected to the phone's display.
Meanwhile, Business Insider has claimed that the augmented reality technology will be added to iPhone 8's camera features. The news outlet added that Apple is also planning to create smart glasses to make the new feature work.
There is no doubt that large tech companies have been more interested in the augmented reality technology following the wide success of the "Pokemon Go" game. So, fans who are patiently waiting for iPhone 8 now have another reason to look forward to its release.
