Popular Free App 'Colorfy' Allegedly Tricking Its Users Into Subscribing $13 Per Week
The popular app Colorfy with over 25 million downloads on Apple Store and over 50 million downloads on Google play is reportedly tricking its users into $13 per week subscription despite having a word "free" in its title and description. Colorfy is a coloring app available on both iOS and Android devices self-described as the "No. 1 Coloring Book for Adults." The app is under the banner name Colorfy: Coloring Book for Adults - Free developed by Fun Games For Free. Apparently, Colorfy is not free app afterall.
A thread on Reddit has appeared, alleging the popular coloring app to be a scam. It appears that Colorfy is tricking its users first by offering one week of trial. After the trial, it will automatically charge you $13 per week if you have not cancelled your trial subscription. Take note that uninstalling the app will not cancel your subscription and a week of trial can be easily forgotten. If you are the type of user who does not pay too much attention to the apps you have installed, this could be the reason of a $13 loss from your balance every week. Confirming the offer of a free trial and uninstalling the app before cancelling your subscription will lead to the same result.
The trick, however, did not violate any of Google Play Store's laws and rules since the users have the option to either accept the offer or not. But this type of cunning scheme is very effective to adults or anyone who are not techy and well-aware of how things work over the internet.
Comments revealed that Colorfy is a part of other "paid to download" apps available on store where users earn money by downloading apps. Points earned by the users can be remeemed through gift cards or even real money. In the case of Colorfy, the users gain points by downloading it and starting the free trial.
