Criminal Minds’ Fans To Boycott Show as Support for Thomas Gibson
It looks like many of the "Criminal Minds" fans have decided to boycott the show as support for Thomas Gibson. Fan have even created hashtags to formally show their protest for firing Gibson which seems to be working as the ratings of the last four episodes without Hotch was noticeably lower. Based on the statistics, the show's viewership is 17% lower compared to last season.
Although the decline appears to be minimal, it may continue to decrease as each episode airs. As of the moment, trending hashtags from supporters include #StillMissingHotch, #NoHotchNoWatch, #SupportThomasGibson #MissingHotch #ThankYouThomasGibson #WeSupportThomasGibson #GibsonStrong.
In one of the earlier interviews with the actor, he narrates what happened before he was fired on the spot. He says he first spoke to producer-writer Virgil Williams to discuss a line that he believed didn't fit and the response he got was not very good. Later on, as he shot a scene he went to Williams again to consult a line that he felt contradicted another line in the story. Williams said sorry but explained that it was necessary.
This made Gibson upset and spoke to his colleagues about it. Suddenly, Williams came into the same room and walked towards Gibson. He explains, "He came into that room and started coming towards me. As he brushed past me, my foot came up and tapped him on the leg," The two had some sort of argument to which Gibson admits he apologized the following day. And then the next thing he knows is that he was fired.
It is not confirmed whether "Criminal Minds" will or will not take Gibson back into the series. The network and producers have not given any statements but rumors claim that they could be forced to take Gibson back. Many fans were affected by his character's disappearance so it can really affect the ratings of their show in the long run.
