YG Entertainment Wins Defamation Case Against Reporter
YG Entertainment receives favorable verdict from defamation lawsuit against entertainment correspondent.
In the lawsuit filed in July 2015, the agency claimed that the reporter was spreading false information about YG artists.
According to reports, the sued correspondent was slandering the artists not only on social networking sites but also in sports and news magazine where alias "K" was working.
Initially, the agency lack of evidence to proceed with the case. The lawsuit carried on with the reporter's plea of being guilty. K stated that the reports contain inaccurate data, All Kpop reported.
The agency initially demanded a sum of 200 million won for the damages induced by the delusive statements. Each lawsuit asked for compensation worth 100 million won. K agreed to pay the compensation demanded but claimed that the amount was too high. The court decided to decrease the amount to 10 million won.
The Seoul Western District Court issued a decision stating that the reports disseminated by K with regards to YG artists drug involvement were all false and considered defamation. The court ordered the reporter to make compensations worth 5 million won for the each affected individuals. K is expected to shell out 10 million won, Soompi reported.
The correspondent was also guilty for spreading false reports of drunk driving about another agency's artist. The Court ordered K to pay the complainant an amount of 7 million won.
K faces multiple complaints not only from artists but also from YG Entertainment itself. The agency complained that K was spreading false reports about a YG staff. An order to compensate the staff with 10 million won was released. However, sources reveal that the plaintiff has no intention for reconciliation.
Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment also appealed that the litigated reporter caused obstruction of business. The complaint is presently under investigation.
