New Trend: Korean Customized Cosmetics Gains Popularity in Customers

South Korean Cosmetics companies are launching a new trend of "customized services" to customers. This is a new business area adopted by the Korean government.

On Wednesday, Amore Pacific, which is one of the leading cosmetics maker/producer in South Korea tried the new business of customized cosmetics. They launched a made-to-order lipstick service at its Myeongdong store in Seoul. The promotion is successful because all the slots are fully booked in advance.

According to one of the officials, the reservations for the customized service that the store offers have been fully booked for up to two weeks since the store opening.

The store Amore Pacific opened on Aug. 8 and they offer two-tone lipsticks where customers can choose the colors that they want. The lipstick is completed within 40 minutes so the customers can get the customized cosmetics within the day. Moreover, message printing on the lipstick case and gift wrapping are also offered at the store.

"Customer interest is very high, perhaps because it's the first cosmetics customization service. Because we make the lipstick on the spot and offer gift wrapping, customers have given satisfactory responses," a company official said.

The South Korean government suggested the new business to be on trial basis. They allow cosmeticians to mix and match different fragrances and ingredients to create customized and individual products. Skin care products like creams, color makeup and perfumes can also be included in the customized cosmetics service of the store.

LG Household & Health Care is also preparing to open its own customization store.

"Customers will be tested for their skin types and provided with skin care that combines the right nutrients with preferred ingredients," the company officials of LG Household & Health Care said.

Furthermore, Tony Moly said that it will open its customization store next year and it will promote a "self-curating zone" where customers can customize and create their own makeup.
