‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’ Launch Trailer Releases Ahead Of Game Release Next Week
The latest installment in the "Deus Ex" video game series, the pre-sequel "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," is set to finally hit stores next week and the developers have deemed it fit to grace fans of the series a launch trailer to rile up some hype.
The trailer, which was released on the official "Deus Ex" YouTube channel, showed a computer generated cinematic sequence showing protagonist Adam Jensen trudging through chaotic streets and recollecting on his actions in the previous game. Following that, the trailer then proceeded to show a series of gameplay footage interspersed with other cinematic cutscenes so fans can have an inkling of what to expect when they finally get the game.
"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" is the fourth main overall entry in the "Deus Ex" franchise, though it is actually the second title in the series' chronological order. "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" is set in 2029, two years after the events of 2011's "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" and will tell the story of the aftermath of that game and how Adam Jensen will deal with the chaos currently rampaging across the world.
The original "Deus Ex" released back in 2000 and was developed by the now defunct Ion Storm and published by then Eidos Interactive, prior to their acquisition by Square Enix. "Deus Ex: Invisible War" followed in 2003 and continued the game's story. As the first chronologically set game in the series, "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" introduced Adam Jensen to fans of the franchise and told of the first tentative steps that mankind took into transhumanism.
Over the course of "Deus Ex: Human Revolution," Adam Jensen uncovered a conspiracy regarding a shadowy organization's designs in controlling the fate of the human race. Near the end of the game, the "Aug Incident occurred which was when augmented humans, or "Augs," briefly became severely violent. The incident came about thanks to the shadowy organization, revealed to be the Illuminati, conspiring to implant Augs with tech to control them until the plan was hijacked by one of their own in an attempt to turn public favor against human augmentation.
"Deus Ex: Human Revolution" featured multiple endings by giving players a choice of how to resolve the problem; whether to expose the plain truth, paint it to either discredit or curry favor towards political interests in human augmentation, or let the world come to its own conclusion.
Regardless of what the players chose however, none of the endings are canon for the story of "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided." Illuminati worked to cover up the issue and now Augs are treated as outcasts in a setting the developers refer to as a "mechanical apartheid."
"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" will see Adam Jensen struggling against the chaos, all the while trying to uncover the true designs of the Illuminati. Catch him again when "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" releases next week Tuesday, August 23.
