South Korean Wrestler, Kim Hyeon-woo, Wins Bronze in Rio 2016 Olympics

South Korean wrestler Kim Hyeon-woo won a bronze medal in the men's 75 kilogram Greco-Roman competition in Rio 2016 Olympics.

Kim, the 2012 Olympic champion in 66kg Greco-Roman wrestling final, beat Bozo Starcevic of Croatia with a score of 6-4 in favor of Kim in the 75kg bronze medal match.

At the age of 9, Kim was in to Judo, However, at the age of 13, he started having interest to join wrestling. In 2006, Kim won the silver medal at the World Junior Wrestling Championships and the gold medal at the Asian Junior Wrestling Championships. After his wins, he started gaining international attention and recognitions in South Korea.

In 2010, Hyeon-woo became a member of the South Korean Senior National Team after he won the gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships. While in 2011, he won bronze for his first medal at a major competition in World Wrestling Championships. Kim also won the gold medal in the men's Greco-Roman 66 kg at the Pre-London Olympics Test Event in the same year.

A judging controversy appeared after his first round defeat at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Kim was defeated by Roman Vlasov of Russia in the round 16. However, Kim was able to beat Bozo Starcevic of Croatia which leads him to win a bronze medal even he injured his arm.

"I felt the pain during the match, but I was eager to win, as I really wanted to do a victory lap with the national flag. An X-ray shows I might have hurt a ligament," Kim said after the match.

Vlasov became the gold medal winner after the judging controversy in the semi-finals.

The Korean delegation and Kim Hyein-woo accepted the panel's decision and decided not to appeal about it.
