DOTS Actor 'Song Joong Ki' Banned From Chinese Projects

Descendants of the Sun lead actor Song Joong Ki is banned from appearing in the Chinese media.

Song recently shot an advertisement for Vivo, a smartphone company in China. However, the advertisement was pulled out because of the tension between South Korea and China over Terminal High Altitude Area (THAAD).

The 30-year old actor signed with Vivo smartphone company to model and advertise the X7 smartphone during the hype of the drama Descendants of the Sun. 

An estimated of 22.8 million yuan was earned by Joong Ki from his modelling contract at Vivo. According to 
Soompi, Vivo is still paying Joong Ki's advertisemnet fee even the ad was pulled out from broadcast. 

The actor's projects and offers from different chinese companies was affected due to THAAD dispute. In addition, Blossom Entertainment, the agency that handles Joong ki, released a statement in Soompi saying that Joong Ki received variety of roles and offers in dramas and movies in China. However, because of the restraint of Korean celebrities in China, the actor's projects are affected.

Joong Ki has been casted in the film "Battleship Island". The movie which is to be promoted in China is also affected by THAAD. Korean movies and TV shows are noted with a wide range of audience and box office hit return from China before. But due to the current tension between the two countries, "Battleship Island" will just be shown and promoted on its national box office.

Aside from Song Joong Ki, other korean celebrities and K-pop Idol groups are prohibited in appearing in Chinese TV shows. Concerts and any meet-and-greet events are also prohibited. The situation with China banning Korean entertainment is still on-going.
