Kim Hyun Joong Wins Case Against Former Girlfriend

It seems that the lawsuits battle between singer Kim Hyun Joong and his ex-girlfriend "A" has finally come to an end.

On August 10, the Seoul Central District Court turned down a compensation request from "A", surnamed Choi, 32. She demanded Kim to pay 1.6 billion won ($1.4 million) as compensation for emotional stress caused by her previously claimed miscarriage in April. The court also ordered "A" to pay Kim 100 million won ($91,400) in compensation due to defamation and psychological stress, among other things.

In an article, the Korea Times reported that the court claimed "A" falsely accused the actor and former leader of the male idol group SS501 of violence in a televised interview and claimed that she suffered a miscarriage due to his physical abuse. In August 2014, "A" filed a complaint against Kim because of her miscarriage. She later dropped the lawsuit after Kim paid her 600 million won on the condition that she will no longer make their stories public.

The judge in charge of the case said, "It cannot be proved that "A" threatened Kim with taking the news of her miscarriage public during the settlement of the first criminal case. However, because "A" did an interview with KBS in which she gave false information with no evidence to prove her second pregnancy and miscarriage is considered a criminal act. Considering the criminal act the day before the defendant's enlistment date, the severe defamation and damage to Kim's image, and extreme psychological stress, "A" shall give compensation in the amount of 100 million won to Kim."

Soompi also reported that the court finds the evidence not enough to prove the claims of "A" of a second pregnancy and coercion of abortion. According to the judge, "Regarding the second pregnancy and question and question of miscarriage, while the plaintiff (A) did visit an obstetrician to confirm pregnancy, the results could not be confirmed. Moreover, the plaintiff was asked to return for further tests after one week, but she did not return to the facility. On May 30, a date when "A" claimed she was pregnant, it was confirmed that she had been drinking with friends. While the plaintiff is contesting the drinking, there is a testimony in the plaintiff's complaint that confirms it."

On September 2015, "A" had a baby boy with Kim, confirmed by DNA analysis. They share custody of their child.
