North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un gave a speech during a rare Workers' Party Congress that began on Friday. Kim addressed his nuclear test and long-range rocket launch earlier this year as a "great success."

In the beginning of the year, North Korea held a nuclear bomb test and launched a rocket--both actions banned by the United Nations. The UN imposed more restrictions on North Korea and other nations, including the U.S., put their own penalty against North Korea.

In spite of the world's disapproval, Kim continued to rave about the nation's nuclear program. He gave his speech in front of a large audience and was broadcasted later in the day on television.

Kim said that the tests had "boosted the country's dignity and national power." North Korea claims to have developed and made progress with more missile and nuclear weapons. According to an article from the Wall Street Journal, North Korea believes that they have no choice but develop in nuclear weapons as a defense from the U.S.

The Workers' Party Congress is expected to last for a few more days. It is the first gathering of the sort since 1980 when Kim's father, Kim Jung-il was in power.
