A press release has been published last month regarding the upcoming "Tokyo Ghoul" mobile game, and along the statement includes a tidbit of news from Funimation Entertainment and CEO Gen Fukunaga that "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 release date will be slated for next year - which can be viewed from GameSamba.

The last season of the anime series premiered in Japan on Jan. 8 this year and ended on Mar. 26, consisting of 12 episodes. The series ended with Kaneki carrying Hide's dead body and comes face-to-face with Arima, while Touka opens up a new café called :re.

Fukunaga said in the statement that with the upcoming "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 release date being set for 2016 - the same year the upcoming mobile game will be released as well - means that the anticipation for the latter has only grown higher. Funimation and GameSamba are working together towards the development of the game. The two also announced an upcoming free-to-play "Fairt Tail" RPG previously.

The said "Tokyo Ghoul" mobile game is currently being set for Android and iOS devices.

Meanwhile, "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 release date is slated for winter 2016 premiere. Madhouse will take over on production duties which were previously handled by Studio Pierrot. The former will continue in highlighting Touka's descent into college application madness, and while it is not yet known if he will have white hair towards the end of the series, the production staff simply revealed to look at other college students as "reference," according to a report from Anime Maru.

"Tokyo Ghoul" started as a manga series written by Sui Ishida, with the first chapter published in September 2011 at Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and ended on September 2014. The first season of its anime series was produced by Studio Pierrot and consists of 12 episodes, which ran from July to September last year.
