Earlier, there were speculations that due to the dearth of new material and plot, the season 3 of the anime was under the question mark. But the release of the new manga volume has provided new storyline and details for the creators to go forward with the season 3 of the anime series.
Further, it is also rumored that the creators will first opt for OVA to test the current response for the anime series after a gap of almost four years, reported Funimation. Eventually, a season 3 for "Spice and Wolf" will be followed based on the fans reaction to the OVA's.
With all the release date rumors, there are speculations that the season 3 might never see the light of the day because of its writer's other commitments.

Additionally, for all those who are new to the "Spice and Wolf" series, Crunchy Roll posted a small summary of the anime stating that the story is about a peddler who discovers a wolf girl who wants to return to her northern home after serving as a town's goddess of harvest for many years.
Also, the publication stated that the story arc includes peddler's deal to bring the wolf girl north, and in return, she is supposed to bring him both prosperity and unwanted attention from the church.
