'Power Rangers' Movie Reboot Cast: Naomi Watson To Play Pink Ranger; Release Date Set!
It's Morphin Time! The all-new "Power Rangers" movie finally announced its first Ranger. English actress and singer Naomi Scott has been announced to play the role of Kimberly Hart, who is better known as the Pink Ranger, via Instagram post according to Time.
Scott, 22, is known for her role as Maddy Shannon in TV series "Terra Nova." She debuted in 2008 in Disney Channel UK series "Life Bites." Her most recent work are the movies "The 33," directed by Patricia Riggen and "The Martian," which was inspired from the Andy Weir novel of the same name and directed by Ridley Scott.
Kimberly Hart, aka the Pink Ranger, was originally played by Amy Jo Johnson during the first 3 seasons of TV series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and on 2 films from the same franchise. Kimberly's character has been described as an "unconventionally cool all in a way the popular girls wish they were." She is returning to school after a 6-month absence, and while there are rumors surrounding her, she doesn't seem to care as she now has an edgy, rebel-without-a-cause attitude according to a report from Collider.
Meanwhile, Dean Israelite, who directed "Project Almanac," is set to direct the all-new "Power Rangers" movie. Screenwriting will be done by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who also wrote "X-Men: First Class" and "Thor" films. Executive producers are Saban Brands' Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur of Lionsgate according to IGN.
Would there be cameos from the original "Power Rangers" actors? While it has not been confirmed yet, actor and MMA fighter Jason David Frank expressed his interest to appear in the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie. He originally played the character Tommy Oliver aka the Red Ranger.
The all-new "Power Rangers" movie will premiere on January 13, 2017, after it was pushed back from the original July 2016 release date.
