Several months ago, Tom Welling was rumored to have joined the DC television universe as Superman as he was allegedly enlisted to be part of the cast of "The Flash" and CBS TV series "Supergirl."

But they proved to be untrue. In fact, the actor was not even approached by any of the existing comic book-based shows.

"There's people who would like it," Welling told Buzzfeed when asked if he might join the "Supergirl" cast before revealing that no negotiation is going on.

Superman Tom Welling added, "There's people who don't like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever actually asked me to do it."

"So, I don't know. It would be kind of odd. I don't know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman."

"Supergirl" tells the story of Kryptonian Kara Zor-el, the cousin of Kal-el/Clark Kent. In his WB TV series "Smaillville," Tom Welling's Superman also had his own Supergirl in Laura Vandervoort.

While there is no assurance that he will indeed join the TV series starring Mellissa Benoist, the 38-year old actor said he is proud of abundance of comic book-based shows on the television right now after his own ended in 2011.

"It's a compliment," Welling said. "I'm very proud of shows like Arrow [and] The Flash. ... They're able to ground these characters so that the viewer can relate on a human level to people who used to be only in two dimensions."

While Tom Welling appearing as Superman in "Supergirl" or in Arrowverse won't happen for now, fans can still keep their fingers crossed.

Those looking for Superman in the CBS show can find solace in the fact that Clark Kent is coming. However, he will only appear as a young boy.

Reports revealed that "A Tiger's Tale" actor Daniel DiMaggio has joined the "Supergirl" cast as the young version of Kara's famous cousin.
