'Phantasy Star Online 2' Closed Beta Request Rolls Out; Sega Limits Testers To 50,000 Players

Sega announced yesterday that "Phantasy Star Online 2" closed beta application started to roll out.

The beta test will be exclusive in Japan. Hence, players should have an active Japanese PSN account to request for an invite but it does not require a PS Plus account, Attack of the Fanboy reported.

Players who have already pre-ordered the game are welcome to join the process by acquiring a ticket here. .

However, they must note that the game developer will select 50,000 players only from the applications received until Feb. 15.

Chosen players will be emailed about "Phantasy Star Online 2" closed beta procedure. It will take place on Feb. 25 until March 16.

Players who will reach a certain level will receive free in-game purchases that can be used on the game's full version.

Following the beta test will be the game's official launch in Japan on April 20 for PS4, PS Vita and PC. Reportedly, the game will be exclusive in Japan as it won't see a release outside its homeland.

"SEGA is currently not planning to release the PS4 version of 'Phantasy Star Online 2' outside of Japan," a company's rep said to Kotaku.

When released, Sega will also add "Phantasy Star Online: Episode 4" on the deluxe package for 4,900 yen. It will bring Tachibana Itsuki costume from the anime and other items to help players get started with their adventure, Gematsu reported.

In a related news regarding "Phantasy Star Online 2," its animation series has been released in celebration of the title's 15th year anniversary.

According to Crunchy Roll, the anime series follows a "completely original story that takes place on earth in the near future." It will be streamed on the live streaming website every Friday starting Jan. 8 at 10:00pm Pacific Time.

The series will be exclusive to Crunchyroll users from USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Latin America, Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa.
