'Arrow' Season 4 Spoilers: Felicity Smoak Gets A Nickname But It Won't Be Oracle
According to spoilers, Emily Bett Rickards' Felicity Smoak is here to stay after the events in "Arrow" mid-season 4 premiere.
The girlfriend of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) survived the attack of Damien Darhk's men. However, she lost her ability to walk forever.
Some hardcore DC comics fans were worried that the CW network TV series will turn the computer genius into Oracle, a superhero nickname held by Barbara Gordon in the comics.
But previous "Arrow" season 4 spoilers from the show's executive producers assured fans that they will not take that path.
"She is not Oracle," EP Wendy Mericle told Entertainment Weekly after the airing of "Arrow" season 4 mid-season premiere.
However, Felicity will get a nickname, a bad-ass title at that, pretty soon.
"We are going to give her a very fun, cool name in a future episode. It's going to be fun. We definitely want to give her a codename. It's been a long time coming, but no, she's not going to be Oracle."
Felicity is just referred to as "b**ch with a Wi-Fi" after her famous line in the third season. Apparently, the character getting a nickname started as a joke among show's writers.
"We took your Q to executive producer Wendy Mericle, who admitted that there's a running joke in the writers room about what Felicity's alias would be if they were to give her one. But at the moment, the tech wiz isn't getting a second moniker," TV Line's Michael Ausiello wrote in August when a fan asked for "Arrow" season 4 spoilers.
Before that codename though, she must first deal with her handicap.
"We were really more interested in exploring the reality of what it's like to go through something like that (getting paralyzed)," Mericle said in another interview with Comic Book Resources.
"Hopefully, we are doing some justice and paying a lot of respect towards people that really do live day-to-day with that reality," she added.
"Arrow" season 4 episode 11 is called "A.W.O.L." and will air on Jan. 27.
