"Mr. Robot," which just won the Golden Globes for drama, is set to return in the middle of the year. If the first season is already depressing, series creator Sam Esmail teased that the release date of its sophomore run will spell an even darker show.

He said "Mr. Robot" season 2 will deal with Elliot Anderson's mental illness which was slowly unraveled last year.

"Yeah, that's the one thing that's been kind of hard going into this second season," Esmail said in an interview with Esquire, "because if we want to be honest to where Elliot was at the end of the first season, it's not a light and sunny place. Now that we are aware of his [mental health] issues, Elliot has to address them."

"What happens after that realization? What are the steps you take to negotiate with it, reconcile with it, fight with it? That's sort of where we're taking the second season."

Sam Esmail added that the first season finale's shocker featuring White Rose and Philip Price in one room will also be tackled.

When "Mr. Robot" season 2 release date comes, there will be a 30-day time jump, said a report from Entertainment Weekly.

"Also, at the end of the first season we think that the mission is complete and that they were able to take down Evil Corp, but we see in the coda with that scene between WhiteRose and Philip Price that there are larger forces at play," he said.

The biggest reveal in the first season is about Mr. Robot who turned out to be Elliot himself. He thought it was his father, played by Christian Slater. Although this huge secret has already been revealed, Esmail insisted more shocking secrets that will be explored in "Mr. Robot" season 2.

"There will be a lot more backstory that will be shown," he said during the Television Critics' Association press tour as reported by Entertainment Weekly. "The timeline will get a little clearer - not 100 percent clear, because where's the fun in that?"

"But a little clearer ... It really is about Elliott trying to reconcile what this means in seeing Mr. Robot. The series is filling in the blanks of the past and the present of this character ... It's about a guy who becomes aware of this delusion he's been having."

"Mr. Robot" season 2 release date is expected to be announced soon.
