NBA Trade Rumors: Sacramento Kings' Rudy Gay To New Orleans Pelicans?
NBA trade rumors suggested that the New Orleans Pelicans are set to make big movements in free agency. Accordingly, Sacramento Kings small forward Rudy Gay is reportedly under the radar of Pelicans who are struggling heavily this season.
"Sources say the Pelicans have interest in trying to acquire Kings forward Rudy Gay," an NBA trade rumor from NOLA.com read. "In his first public comments since September, Demps would not disclose specifically players they are targeting."
A few days ago, New Orleans Pelicans general manager Dell Demps told media that they are looking for a small forward.
''We will be looking at that (small forward) position, and all positions you know, we want to win games, '' Demps said per NOLA. ''The bottom line is we've got to figure out what it's going to take for us to win games. We are working right now and we will do what's needed to get this team on track."
New Orleans Pelicans, who finished eighth in Western Conference last season, are currently in the 12th place. Demps said that their focus right now is to improve the team and make it to the playoffs.
"We will do what's needed to get this team on track," Demps said as per ESPN. "Obviously we dug ourselves a deep hole. And it's going to be tough for us to fight back into it this year. But we're always looking for the long term as well as the short term. We haven't given up on the season."
Rudy Gay is a huge boost for Pelicans whose offense come mostly from Anthony Davis. In two seasons with Kings, the 2008 eighth overall draft pick averaged 21 points. Throughout his career, he only averaged double digits in points each season.
Kings are also struggling just like Pelicans. The team have also been involved in several NBA trade rumors, and with Rudy Gay being a key contributor to the team since 2013, it would be hard to tell if they will actually let him go.
