'Outlander' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers & More: Why Is Sam Heughan Surprised By Jamie's Story Arc?

As "Outlander" season 2 release date draws near, fans can expect the unexpected as actor Sam Heughan even expressed his surprise by the spoilers that he learned for the upcoming episodes.

The actor said he was surprised by Jamie's growth in the show, especially since his character has shown his weakness several times in the series.

"Season 2 has been about discovering a side of the character I didn't know was there," he told Variety. "He's playing someone else - he's learning to be quite deceptive, and he does it very well."

Jamie was a mess at the end of the first season after what Jack Black did to him. He and wife Claire are now traveling to Paris to forget the past. While they are there, the couple engages in a delicate mission. Jamie will struggle but he has his wife to support him every step of the way.

"We go to Paris on this mission, and we're there for a reason," Caitiona Balfe teased "Outlander" season 2 spoilers to Collider.

"But Jamie's definitely still affected by the trauma. I think time is a great healer, but ultimately, he puts his whole body and soul into this mission about changing history, and then there is a great revelation that kind of cures him or brings him out of himself, which I can't really tell you what that is, but it certainly brings back the old Jamie."

New characters will debut when "Outlander" season 2 release date arrives. However, a familiar face that the couple hates and fears will resurface, according to multiple spoilers.

The good thing though is that he is not the same person that raped them. Frank Randall, Claire's husband from 1940s will be featured in the Starz TV series' sophomore run.

"Meanwhile, Claire's pregnancy presents challenges of its own in Season 2, especially in how it affects her role in their efforts to stop the uprising," TV Line wrote. "But that will hardly be the biggest issue for Mrs. Fraser, who finds herself - major spoiler alert! - reunited with her 1940s husband during the season."

"Outlander" season 2 release date is expected to be around March or April as confirmed on Twitter by executive producer Ronald Moore.
