Amir Khan Sabotaged? Why Didn't British Get Chance To Face Manny Pacquiao In Next Fight?
Many are disappointed about Manny Pacquiao's next fight, which will be up against Timothy Bradley. This will be the boxers' third face-off, and one that is not well-received by some boxing fans.
Before the confirmation of Bradley as Pacman's April opponent, among those in discussions are Amir Khan and Terence Crawford. The former is more aggressive to be named as Manny Pacquiao's opponet. However, he was dropped. So, what exactly happened?
It turned out, it is Pacman's broadcaster who did not want him.
"The thing is he's not a big pay-per-view draw," the Filipino boxer's trainer Freddie Roach told Boxing News when asked why Khan was not selected for Manny Pacquiao's next fight.
"We had talks about him and I know him very well, he's a good boxer. His speed would give anyone in the world trouble, he's a very good fighter, but his name got thrown out very, very quickly by HBO. HBO didn't want that fight."
Amir Khan used to be a sparring mate for Manny Pacquiao. His latest gig was against Chris Algieri, which he won via unanimous decision.
The Filipino fighter also beat Algieri back in November 2014.
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who is also Pacquiao's promoter, said that the fight with Timothy Bradley will be better than their first two.
"Bradley was a different fighter in the fight with Rios," the promoter said as per Yahoo Sports.
"He had a different style, a different game plan and he performed differently. If he'd have stayed with Joel Diaz and we'd put him in with Pacquiao a third time, the criticism of this fight would no doubt be justified."
He added, "But he's a different guy under Atlas. Does being with Atlas change him enough to make him more competitive with Pacqiuao? I think yes, but we'll have to see."
The specific date for Manny Pacquiao's next fight with Timothy Bradley is yet to be revealed.
