Ricky Gervais, who hosted the recent Golden Globes 2016, was criticized for his transgender jokes.

"I'm gonna be nice tonight," Ricky Gervais started as he hosted the event. "I've changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously. Now Caitlyn Jenner, of course."

He added that Caitlyn has become a role model for transgender people through her bravery in "breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes."

However, he later added, "She didn't do a lot for women drivers. But you can't have everything, can you? Not at the same time."

The host was said to be referring to the former olympiad's involvement in a car crash that led to a woman's death, The Advocate said in a report.

Aside from Jenner, Ricky Gervais also drew mixed reactions from the audience at the Golden Globes 2016 as he threw a transgender joke over Jeffrey Tambor who plays as a transgender woman in "Transparent."

"Every day he has to put on all the women's clothes and the hair and makeup and let people film it," the host said. "That takes balls. I don't know how he does it. I really don't."

"I've seen his balls - they're huge, and long," he added. "I don't know if he tucked them in the bra or does that thing where you push them out the back and let them hang out, like a bulldog - no one knows."

Just before the awards show ended, the comedian added another joke about Eddie Redmayne, who played as a transgender woman in "The Danish Girl." He called him a "British actress," The Hollywood Reporter wrote.

Meanwhile, Twitter users have expressed their mixed reactions from Gervais' performance.

"Can't think of a more guaranteed good time as a TV audience than @rickygervais hosting the #GoldenGlobes. He always delivers. #loveit," one user said, as reported by Telegraph UK.

"Ricky Gervais' 'jokes' about Caitlyn Jenner were nowhere near funny. Disgusting," said another.

But Ricky Gervais also took to Twitter to answer back to his bashers, saying, "Can't wait for people to start reporting that I offended some people at The Golden Globes. Of course I fucking did."
