Business Korea reported on Monday China's second-largest smartphone company Xiaomi Technology has been actively engaging in various activities that give away hints of the company's plan to enter South Korean market

The tech giant has reportedly appointed a law firm in South Korea and has voiced out its opinions on entering the market during a meeting. Xiaomi also held an event in Seoul on Sept. 11 with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) start-ups to introduce its latest Android-based operating system called MIUI 7, which may be downloaded from Google Play. MIUI is now available in 156 countries in 32 various languages.

At the Seoul event, Xiaomi Technology persuaded the attendees to create applications based on the MIUI operating system. This made the public speculate that the smartphone company is targeting Korean consumers as part of its strategy to enter the South Korean market.

Android Headlines noted on Monday China's tech giant also introduced the MIUI 7 in China in August,  followed by an event in New Delhi to introduce the global version of the operating system. The MIUI in China, however, is not available in the Google Play Store due to issues between the country's authorities and Google regarding Google services' censorship in China.

Xiaomi's VP for international affairs Hugo Barra has claimed earlier this year that the company will sell its smartphones in the U.S. in one to two years. The company is also looking at entering the PC business in 2016 with a few smart gadgets already released in China.

Xiaomi Technology has not yet established an office in South Korea, nor placed their staff in the country unlike China's Huawei Korea or ZTE Korea. The company's appointed lawyer, however, will be responsible for the copyright issues of Xiaomi devices and softwares in South Korea.
