Oliver Tree died on June 14 when the helicopter he was riding in collided with another aircraft over Rio de Janeiro. On June 29 - what would have been his 33rd birthday - Bobbi Althoff released the full video of an interview she recorded with him before his death, on her show "The Really Good Podcast."

Tree appeared in the episode dressed in an Elmo costume with red face paint, a habit of his during interviews. He told Althoff he didn't take his survival for granted. "My parents, they're like, 'Oliver, it's a lot to travel all the time,'" he said. "I'm like, 'Guys, look. We don't know if I'll be alive next year, or if you'll be alive.'" Pressed further, he added: "Do you know how high-risk I live my life, actually for real?" and described a series of past and planned trips.

Althoff posted a disclaimer at the start of the video. "I'm grateful to have had this conversation with Oliver," it read. "I'm sharing it with love and respect for his life, his art, and the unforgettable world he created." She said all profits from the episode would go to the Dr. Oliver Tree's Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses, a fund Tree had set up in his will to support artists working in music, film installation, and performance art. Sources close to Tree's camp confirmed to TMZ that Althoff secured approval from his team before publishing.

It is unclear when the interview was actually recorded.

Tree died alongside five other people: Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim Díaz, known as Gaspi; Argentine director Lucas Vignale; Brazilian producer Lucas Brito Chaves; and the two pilots, Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac. The two helicopters collided at roughly 9 a.m. local time above the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood in Rio's southwest zone. One aircraft crashed into a lot rented by BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, setting fire to roughly 20 cars on the site. The second crashed about 100 meters away. There were no survivors among the six people aboard both aircraft.

Tree had been in Brazil for his World's First World Tour, in support of his self-produced 2026 album "Love You Madly Hate You Badly." He had performed in São Paulo on June 6; his next show was scheduled for July 1 in Lisbon.

Tributes followed from Kid Cudi, Post Malone, Diplo, Bebe Rexha, T-Pain, and Tree's ex-girlfriend Melanie Martinez, among others. His body was returned to California on June 21, a week after the crash. A statement posted to his social media accounts at the time read: "Oliver is now back in California where he can finally rest."

The Althoff interview does not resolve the question of whether Tree was speaking literally about his relationships or his future - he gave the comments, as he often did, half in character. What it leaves behind is the date he chose to talk about mortality, and the date someone else chose to let the public hear it.
