'Avatar,' 'Legend Of Korra' Creators Celebrate 'Rebel Genius' And 'Threadworlds'
Although some "Legend of Korra" fans are still hoping for a continuation of the "Avatar" universe, co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino have announced new projects as individual creators.
On Thursday, EW previewed Michael DiMartino's new novel "Rebel Genius" by revealing the first chapter.
"Giacomo is a 12-year-old who lives in a world where art is illegal. Every artist possesses a birdlike creature called a Genius, which contains the artist's creative spirit," said the plot synopsis. "If you're caught with a Genius, you might as well be dead-so when Giacomo realizes he has one, his troubles are only beginning."
This would be the first individual project announced for DiMartino since the end of the popular Nickelodeon series "The Legend of Korra," a continuation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
According to Kpopstarz, former collaborator Bryan Konietzko will also venture out with graphic novel series "Threadworlds," published by First Second Books.
"I definitely wasn't aiming to be topical, but once science became the focal point of the story I knew it was important to me to have a young girl as the main character," said Konietzko last July.
"This is basically Nova's long origin story as scientific superhero. I hope she'll be inspiring to readers of all genders and ages, but especially girls who are interested in studying and pursuing science."
Not surprisingly, the pair is cheering each other up with their solo endeavors.
"So excited for Mike," wrote Konietzko on Tumblr. "I had the pleasure of reading his book 'Rebel Genius' and it is awesome! Can't for you all to be able to read the whole thing."
