Lisa Press Play EP Review: 7/10 (Provisional)

On Thursday night in Seoul's Seongsu-dong, Lisa played all six songs of Press Play for fans inside a set styled as a vintage Hollywood movie theater, a day before the EP reached streaming services. The staging says what the EP says: sit down and press play.

A note on method first. This review is written from the confirmed tracklist, the credits published so far, press descriptions of the two videos, the lead single's chart data and Lisa's interviews, not from a full start-to-finish listen. The rating is provisional and should be revisited after one.

My assessment is that Press Play is a coherent, carefully staged second solo chapter, because its concept, sequencing and ownership structure all point the same way, even though only one of the six songs has full public credits and the lead single's chart result trails its video.

The concept is the strongest part. Lisa told "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," as Complex relayed it, that every song has its own character and together "it's like a movie." The sequence follows through: "SaWaDiKa" opens, "V12" and "Cobra" follow, the focus track "Tarantino" sits fourth, and "Cut U Off" and "Sweat" close. Lisa said in September that the fourth song would be the next single, so the placement was planned. Read as a film, the title track is the second-act turn. That reading is mine; no one on the project has said it.

"SaWaDiKa," produced by Thom Bridges and Ojivolta with vocal production by Kuk Harrell, turns the Thai greeting for "hello" into a boast, with references to a Geneva watch and a Ferrari, per Complex. The greeting-as-flex idea is the clever part. The luxury-goods inventory is rap's most worn currency and the least specific thing about the song. Its Bangkok-shot video, directed by Bang Jae Yeob, drew 70.8 million YouTube views in 24 hours, her agency said, the highest first-day total for a 2026 music video. The song debuted at No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, her highest debut as a solo artist. The gap between those two numbers is the EP's central tension: Lisa's audience is enormous, and it converts to U.S. chart position more slowly than it converts to views.

"Tarantino" is the harder test. Press accounts describe a video in which Lisa fights through a hotel to deliver a letter to Quentin Tarantino, in action sequences styled after his films, and a PlayStation spot previewed the track over pounding percussion. A homage built on a director's name is a safe pitch. Whether the song stands without the video is what a full listen has to settle, and naming the focus track after a filmmaker raises the bar for the movie conceit.

The business structure matters here too. Lisa launched LLOUD in 2024, and its RCA partnership gives her ownership of her solo recordings, Complex reported. Press Play is her first release since the Alter Ego album in February 2025, a gap of about 20 months. Alter Ego spread across five personas. This EP uses one autobiographical thread, from Thailand to the global stage. That is a sharper brief and a riskier one, since six songs leave less room to hide a weak track than a full album does.

What is missing is a cast list. Complex's pre-release guide said full production credits for five of the six songs had not been published, and no guest artists are named. For an EP whose pitch is a feature film, that is a lot of unseen credits.

Lisa's first Las Vegas residency, the first by a K-pop artist, runs six nights at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, starting Nov. 12. The setlist will show which of these six songs she trusts live.

Rating: 7/10 (provisional). The concept and execution earn it. The unheard songs hold it back.

Press Play is out now on LLOUD Co./RCA Records. Viva La Lisa plays The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Nov. 12, 13, 14, 27, 28 and 29.
