NCsoft has officially announced that Aion 2 will launch in Korea and Taiwan on November 19, 2025, with global release following in mid-2026. The sequel to the popular 2008 MMORPG promises a dramatically expanded world and refined gameplay mechanics.

Release Timeline and Pre-Registration

Pre-registration opened on September 11, 2025, through the official website and major app stores. Players who sign up early receive a pet selection box (choosing between Zaiph or Puppis) and 100,000 Kinah. Those registering by September 14 can enter a lottery for G-Star 2025 tickets.

The launch schedule includes:

  • October 16-20: Server and character name reservations
  • November 13-16: Playable demo at G-Star 2025 exhibition
  • November 16: PC client pre-download and character creation begins
  • November 19: Official Korea/Taiwan launch

What's New in Aion 2

Set 200 years after the original game, Aion 2 features a world 36 times larger than its predecessor. The most significant upgrade is unrestricted flight - players can now fly anywhere in the game world, not just designated areas.

The game launches with eight familiar classes: Chanter, Cleric, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Ranger, Assassin, Templar, and Gladiator. Each class has around 40 skills, with players selecting 12 abilities for combat loadouts optimized for different content types.

Character customization has been expanded to over 200 adjustable features, maintaining Aion's reputation for detailed avatar creation.

Combat and Content

Aion 2 ditches auto-combat entirely, focusing on manual control and skill-based gameplay. The combat system includes rear-hit detection and dynamic positioning mechanics.

PvE Content:

  • Over 200 dungeons (solo, 4-player, and 8-player options)
  • Nightmare Dungeons with 10 difficulty levels
  • Dynamic field events across the expanded world
  • Redesigned Fire Temple dungeon

PvP Features:

  • The Abyss returns as the primary PvP battleground
  • 1v1 and 4v4 arena modes
  • 8v8 battlegrounds with objective-based gameplay
  • Separate servers for Elyos and Asmodian factions

Monetization Approach

NCsoft emphasizes a player-friendly business model compared to previous titles. The free-to-play game will focus on cosmetic purchases rather than pay-to-win mechanics.

Revenue sources include:

  • Membership and convenience passes
  • Cosmetic items (outfits, weapon skins, pets)
  • Wings (also craftable in-game)
  • Currency exchange system between in-game and premium currencies

Notably, the game avoids gacha systems and loot boxes for skills, with all abilities unlocked through gameplay.

Platform Strategy

While primarily developed for PC, Aion 2 includes mobile companion features for crafting and daily activities. Cross-platform interaction is supported, though mobile won't include full combat functionality. A console version is planned for post-PC launch.

Global Release Plans

Following the November 2025 Korea/Taiwan soft launch, NCsoft expects global release in mid-2026. The company projects approximately $214 million in revenue for fiscal 2026, reflecting conservative expectations for the PC-focused market.

The staggered release allows for testing and refinement based on Asian market feedback before worldwide expansion. NCsoft plans continued community engagement through regular "AION2NIGHT" livestreams leading up to launch.
