‘Doctor Who’ Spinoff ‘Class’ Coming To BBC America for 2016; ‘Adele: Live in London’ To Air on Valentine’s Day
"Doctor Who" companion series called "Class" is set to premiere later this year on BBC America, the network announced. The series is being executive produced by Doctor Who's Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin.
"Class" is described as "Coal Hill School and 'Doctor Who' like you've never seen them before." The show is set in a school in contemporary London.
The eight-part series marks the TV screenwriting debut of YA author Patrick Ness, best known for his book A Monster Calls.
"I'm astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself," Ness said in a statement.
"I can't wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your exams," he joked.
"Class" will film in and around Wales in Spring 2016 and air next year.
BBC America also announced that it will air thriller "Prey" at 10 p.m. on Feb. 25.
"With each of these shows we aim to cut through the noise and provide the innovation and originality our fans have come to love and celebrate," said Sarah Barnett, president of BBC America.
"We're excited about a fresh twist on the Doctor Who universe [and] an unconventional take on the crime drama that keeps you guessing at every turn."
BBC America announced earlier the greenlight of new original scripted series of Max Landis' adaptation of Douglas Adams' novel series "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency." BBC America will also air "Adele: Live in London" on Valentine's Day.
