Antibiotics Don't Cure UTI? Name Of A New Strain Surface, Resistance To Latter Confirmed!

With Antibiotics being widely prescribed for UTIs or other illnesses, the antibiotic resistance is certainly a growing concern. "Superbugs" is the name given to the evolved strain of bacteria that have become resistant to the drug.
The fact that resistance to the drug has spread across the world, it is indeed scary that if effective drugs are not available, then those common medical practices are likely to get more risky.
In the words of England's Chief Medical officer Sally Davis, the growing threat of antibiotic resistance is a "ticking time bomb" that should be ranked alongside terrorism in terms of risk, Cited TimesFreePress.
"You have a young child who has an ear infection, many will require antibiotics", Dr. Katherine Fleming-Dutra, an expert at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said, as quoted by the source above.
"With urinary tract infections and with most surgeries, we give antibiotics," she added. "For C-sections, usually there will be an antibiotic given. People with cancer, on chemotherapy or radiation, where their immune system is weakened, we will give them an antibiotic."
According to a recent study, It has been revealed that bacteria has resisted the most common UTI antibiotic name which is usually the last resor, cited Derry Journal. Colistin, which is considered to be the last line of defence against some serious infections is believed to be under threat after it is being reported that researchers have found that E.coli Bacteria from food products in China has developed resistance to Colistin.
The resistance was caused by MCR-1 Gene found on a piece of Bacterial DNA that can be transferred between bacteria. It was found that the gene was found in E.Coli from one percent of hospital inpatients in china.
Though this kind of antibiotic resistance hasn't yet been confirmed at other parts of the world, it is a global concern that potentially advance more quickly than new antibiotics can be developed
The antibiotic name Colistin was considered as a weapon of last resort against illnesses like UTI, etc, caused by bacteria that have become resistant to other strong drugs.
