Drama Adaptation Of Korean Animation Depicting Cruelty Of School Violence Now In Production

The animation titled "The King of Pigs" by director Yeong Sang Ho is confirmed to have a drama adaptation. According to a recent report by Sports Donga, the animation's story accurately depicts the cruelty of school violence.

As of press time, casting for this upcoming adaptation has not been announced. However, an open audition will happen sometime this month.

"The King of Pigs" centers on school violence and takes place in middle school. In this micro-society, the weak are seen as pigs as the students with power abuse their power over them. This upcoming drama is based on the animation of the same name that deals with various levels and themes of school violence. The original animation has already received recognitions in various award events.

The director and producer of this animation Yeon Sang Ho is no stranger when it comes to creating animation and movies that delivers social messages to society. Some of the animation and movies he has done are the following: "Downfall" in 2012, "The Fake" in 2013, "Train to Busan" in 2016, and "Seoul Station" in 2016.

"The Fake" is actually Yeon's sophomore feature film after his success on "The King of Pigs" in 2011. The animation is set in a rural village that have placed their faith on a church elder named Choi Gyeong-seok to relocate everyone in the municipality, as the it will be flooded to make way for a new dam.

"Train to Busan" is one of Yeong Sang Ho's successful live-action blockbuster and that is an international hit. The South Korean live-action horror film stars Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, and Ma Dong-seok. It mostly takes places on high-speed train from Seoul to Busan as sudden zombie apocalypse breaks out of he country and the passenger are in for the time of their lives.

With issues of bullying now becoming a major human issue, this upcoming drama adaptation of the "The King of Pigs" could be a huge wake-up call for Koreans.
