Instagram Adds 'Co-Watching' Feature to Increase Online Social Engagement During COVID-19 Quarantines
While many Americans are under a government issued "stay-at-home" order, the social isolation is getting real. Instagram added a new feature called "Co-Watching." It allows for users to co-watch live videos with friends while on a video call.
Instagram users on a video call can tap on the photo icon and play a video. Everyone on the call will be able to watch it together while still seeing everyone's faces on the call.
Stay-at-home or shelter-in-place orders from state officials has many American at home for at least the next few weeks. Instagram is seeking to help its user cope with the isolation and social distancing by engaging with friends online.
Instagram also introduced a few other changes in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instagram search will include more educational information. COVID-19 related accounts will be removed from the recommendations unless its from an official or credible health source.
