'SKY Castle' Smashes 'Goblin' Record; Hits Highest Viewership Ratings In Korea's Cable Network History
SKY Castle has broken the viewership rating record that Gong Yoo's K-drama Goblin has set. The JTBC drama is expected to further soar in ratings as it will come to an end this week.
SKY Castle has surpassed the 20 percent mark for its latest episode and smashed the nationwide viewership rating that is set by Guardian: The Lonely and Great God in 2017. According to the data of Nielsen Korea, the January 19 episode of SKY Castle raked an average nationwide viewership rating of 22.3 percent and 24.5 percent in the metropolitan area. This makes a new record for the highest viewership ratings in cable network history in both dramas and non-dramas.
The hit TV series Goblin previously recorded a 20.5 percent for its January 21, 2017 episode. At the time, Gong Yoo-led K-drama broke the record for cable networks for the first time in 22 years. Two years later, it was broken by SKY Castle.
What makes SKY Castle's viewership ratings exceptional is that it started off at 1.7 percent with its pilot episode in November 2018. Its popularity grows in each episode. Now, it is a top-rated K-drama and most popular Korean TV show today.
The buzz about the show further escalated when the script for its most recent episodes leaked and has been shared online. The series' rating is expected to further increase when it wrapped up this week. SKY Castle finale will air on January 25 and 26 at 11 p.m. KST on JTBC.

They try to make their husbands more successful and will do everything to make their children enter the top university in SoKor. They seem to live in a perfect life but in reality, they are also hiding some secrets.
Meanwhile, SKY Castle actress Yum Jung Ah is also leading the January brand reputation rankings for K-drama stars. Yum, who plays the role of Han Seo Jin in the series, recorded a brand reputation index of 9,962,269.
She is followed by Memories of the Alhambra actor Hyun Bin. Encounter stars Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum are third and fourth spots respectively.
