‘The Young and the Restless’ Updates: Ashley Abbott Actress Quits
Long-time The Young and the Restless actress Eileen Davidson is leaving the show after playing the role of Ashley Abbott on and off since 1982. Reports say the star is looking to spend more time with her family.
The Daytime Emmy-winning star's exit comes weeks after the sudden departure of fellow fan-favorite Mishael Morgan who plays the scheming talk show host Hilary Curtis. "Eileen is a big family person, but Sony's 'no raises' policy makes it easier for actors to walk away these days," a source has revealed.
Davidson has also appeared in Days of Our Lives as the antagonist Kristen Blake DiMera and the rest of her doppelgangers, namely Penelope Banks, Thomas Banks, Mary Moira Banks, and Susan Banks. From 2014 to 2018, she also appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Davidson's Y&R History
This isn't Davidson's first departure from The Young and the Restless. In 1988, she first exited the long-running soap opera and was replaced by Brenda Epperson. In 1999, the actress made a comeback on the show and had continued to play Ashley ever since. Her character also made an appearance in The Bold and the Beautiful in 2007 and 2008.
While no word is out yet whether Davidson's departure is for real this time, the actress tweeted of her intentions. She explained that she needs to have "a little more control" of her life.
Mishael Morgan's Departure
While there might be a chance for Davidson's role to return in Y&R, Morgan's departure seem final. According to sources, the reason behind her exit is a result of contract negotiations.
Morgan joined the TV series in 2013, and her departure caused a major breakdown among fans as her character's popular romance with Devon, played by Bryton James, was just beginning to blossom.
