New Marvel ‘Spider-woman’ Film To Highlight Korean-American Superhero

Sony Pictures is reportedly working on a new Marvel superhero movie featuring a Korean-American character. The film, which is still in its early stage of development, is based on a character named Silk, who first appeared in "The Amazing Spider-Man #1" in 2014. According to reports, the upcoming movie will be produced by Amy Pascal.

Who is Silk?

Silk was created by writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos. Like Peter Parker, she was bitten by a spider exposed to large amounts of radiation, which ultimately gives her the power similar to Spider-Man.

Also known as Cindy Moon, Silk is also a student in Parker's class. She possesses the Silk Sense, and she can also shoot webs out of her fingertips and move at an incredible speed. In last year's Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man's female counterpart is played by actress Tiffany Espensen. She also made a brief appearance in Avengers: Infinity War.

'Spider-Woman' Details

Unfortunately, Sony hasn't announced solid details about the upcoming Silk movie. As of writing, no actors, writers, or director are attached to the film.

Pascal hasn't commented on the project as well, but she now owns her own company, Pascal Pictures, after having chaired Sony Picture's motion picture group, which she left three years ago. Since then, she worked on producing other movies, including The Girl in the Spider's Web, Silver & Black, Venom, The Post, Molly's Game, and Ghostbusters. Spider-Man spin-off Venom, starring Tom Hardy, will be out in cinemas on October 5.

Pascal is one of the professionals in the movie industry who'll be working on a female Marvel superhero. The upcoming Captain Marvel, which opens March 8, 2019, starring Brie Larson, marks Marvel's first time to feature a female superhero lead. The film's co-director, Anna Boden, is also Marvel's first female director.

Silk appears to be the latest addition in Sony's Marvel-licensed characters, including Morbius the Living Vampire, Nightwatch, Silver & Black, and Venom. Sony has yet to confirm the project.
