'Halo 5: Guardians' Xbox One Sales Hit $850 Million In Game Sales; Makes Former The Top Console In October!
For the second time this year, Microsoft has beaten Sony all because of the release of "Halo 5: Guardians," according to Metro.
Approximately 350,000 Xbox Ones were sold, outselling PlayStation 4, while the game "Halo 5: Guardians," was also the best-selling game in the month of October.
"New physical video game software sales decreased by 3 percent from October 2014," NPD analyst Liam Callahan said in a statement. "With trends mirroring hardware as console game sales were offset by a 42 percent decline in portable game sales."
Over the same month last year, Xbox One is up 81 percent, cited Engadget.
According to industry-tracking firm The NPD Group, American consumers have spent $805.9 million on hardware at retailers and new game-related software last month, revealed Venture Beat.
That is two percent higher than the $788.7 million spent in October 2014.
Up 18 percent to $197 million is the accessories category, which includes interactive toys such as "Amiibo", "Skylanders" and plastic "Rock Band" guitars. This is compared to the same period of last year's $168.2 million.
Hardware was even from $271.1 million, down to $270.3 million and software down three percent, from $349 million to $337.7 million.
Up three percent as well were home consoles, but Vita Sales and 3DS dragged the total down. This is due to the October release of "Super Smash Bros." for 3DS.
The NPD Group did not include used games or digital downloads in their report, meaning GameStop and mobile did not contribute to the numbers. The NPD only tracks new games sold at retailers in the United States.
For a single system release, "Halo 5:Guardians" reached number one and by far was the biggest release.
"[This] generation of consoles had a strong month with 62 percent growth over October 2014, while last-generation console sales dropped by 63 percent," said Callahan. "That's higher than the year-to-date decrease in sales of 51 percent."
Microsoft benefited from players leaving the last-gen. It appears that Xbox 360 owners are jumping to Xbox One for the new Halo 5: Guardian.
