The cameras have begun rolling for Avatar 2. Despite the long delay, the people behind the second installment of James Cameron's classic has promised that it is worth the wait.

Most of the characters in the first movie are coming back for the sequel. The latest star of Avatar who confirmed his return is Dileep Rao who portrayed the role of Dr. Max Patel in the original film. He was a scientist working on the Avatar Program and among those who helped lead character Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) on his battle against the villainous Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang).

Aside from Rao, other original cast members who will be returning are Worthington, Lang, Zoe Saldana(Neytiri), CCH Pounder (Mo'at), Joel David Moore (Dr. Norm Spellman), Giovanni Ribisi (Parker Selfridge), and Sigourney Weaver (Dr. Grace Augustine). They will be joined by newcomers such as Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, and Cliff Curtis. Avatar producers have earlier hinted that fans should disregard who died in the original movie as people will return from the dead in the upcoming sequel.

Avatar 2 Plot

It would be interesting to see how the world of Na'vi, the indigenous species of Pandora, will be integrated into Avatar 2. Though the plot details remain under wraps except for the information that most of the scenes are shot underwater. Cameron is also keeping story arc of each character a secret but he previously shared a little detail about Winslet's role.

The Titanic actress will be playing a character that is part of the reef people clan. Cameron has revealed that Winslet has demanded that she will do all her water work herself.

Lang has revealed that Avatar 2 would be similar to the original movie in so many ways, but only it would be like "on steroids." Many speculations that it is probably because of the tedious filming that the cast members will be into considering that they have to shot scenes underwater. Cameron has revealed that some of the cast have undergone underwater training to be able to hold breath and act at the same time while submerged in the water for a couple of minutes.

"They're all perfectly capable of acting underwater, very calmly while holding their breath. We're not doing any of this on scuba. And we're getting really good data, beautiful character motion, and great facial performance capture. We've basically cracked the code," Cameron told Collider.

Reports indicated that its estimated production budget is expected to exceed $1 billion. Cameron has kicked off the production of Avatar 2 in September 2017. It is set to be hit theaters on December 18, 2020. The third installment has a screening date of December 17, 2021.

According to Cameron, if Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 perform well at the box office, there will be two more sequels and it will be released in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
