Nokia 9 Will Release On January 19 Along With Nokia 8 (2018), Claims Report
There have already been a handful of rumors and leaks related to the Nokia 9, so it was about time we got filled in on the unveiling date. A new report from China says the device will be made official next month.
The word comes via Chinese source MyDrivers, which claims HMD Global is holding a product launch in China on January 19. It's said that the Nokia 9 will be unveiled at this event along with a next-gen Nokia 8. The report goes on to state that both handsets will be tailored to the Chinese market, which likely means making them less focused on Google services and more on local equivalents.
In addition to unearthing the announcement schedule, MyDrivers has leaked a screenshot that appears to detail the prices of the Nokia 9. The leaked screenshot shows that the Nokia 9 with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage will go on sale in China for CNY 3,699 (approximately Rs. 36,000), whereas its other version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will be available for CNY 4,199 (roughly Rs. 40,900), as reported by GSM Arena.
If we believe some ongoing rumors, the Nokia 9 will feature a 5.5-inch QHD display and would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. The protective case of the smartphone that was spotted on Amazon UK pointed at a curved-glass display, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
The case also suggested that handset would have a back-facing fingerprint scanner and a dual-camera setup. Moreover, the smartphone is widely expected to have USB Type-C port and will probably run Android 8.0 Oreo right out-of-the-box.
The Nokia 8 (2018) will also feature Snapdragon 835 SoC and the latest Android 8.0 Oreo experience. HMD Global started rolling out an Android Oreo update for its 2017 Nokia 8 last month.
There's reason to believe that the Nokia 9, at least, will not be a Chinese exclusive, however, as we've seen it receiving certifications in a number of different territories already. It seems likely it will be released for other markets too, though whether this will happen inside January or closer to CES in February, remains to be seen.
