BTS Grabs Artist Of The Year With Five More Awards At MAMA 2017
The final ceremony of 2017 MAMA was held on December 1 in Hong Kong at the AsiaWorld-Expo. BTS took home awards for Best Music Video (for "Spring Day"), Best Asian Style in Hong Kong, and also Artist of the Year, one of the year's Daesangs (grand prizes).
BTS or Bangtan Boys, which has achieved global stardom years after its debut, won its first MAMA Artist of the Year (Daesang) award in 2016. This is the second consecutive year that the seven-member boy group took home the much-coveted award. Since that time, BTS has had a truly amazing year in which they reached many new milestones and set records both for themselves and for K-pop groups.
Aside from winning Daesang at the 2017 MAMA ceremony held in Hong Kong on Dec. 1, BTS also received the Best Music Video award for their song "Spring Day," as well as a special award for Best Asian Style in Hong Kong, as reported by Inquisitr. On the other hand, BTS won four awards as a group at this year's Melon Music Awards held on Dec. 2 in Seoul, South Korea. The popular boy band has received the Best Song of the Year (Daesang) award for "Spring Day," Best Music Video award for "DNA," Global Artist Award, and the Top 10 Artists award. One of the group members Suga also received the Hot Trend award for the song "Wine" which he produced for local singer Suran, who shared the award with him.
According to Soompi, BTS firstly released their hit repackage album "You Never Walk Alone" in February before embarking on a world tour, and went on to release the mini album "Love Yourself: Her" this fall. The mini album has broken sales records on Korea's Gaon Chart and it's title track "DNA" earned them their dream of entering the Billboard Hot 100. They also received the Top Social Artist award at the Billboard Music Awards, and recently became the first K-pop group to perform at the American Music Awards.
The incredibly popular group once again offered their success to their devoted fans, collectively called ARMY. While receiving Artist of the Year Award, RM thanked their fans, happily shouting, "ARMY! We love you!"
