Nokia 9 or Nokia 8

Much to the dismay of smartphone enthusiasts who have restlessly been waiting to get their hands on Nokia 7 or Nokia 9 towards to end of the year, the Finnish company that develops Nokia-branded phones, HMD Global is not planning new phone launch. As if that weren't enough, Nokia 7 is not likely to arrive in other markets this year.

According to a report by NokiaPoweruser, HMD Global may be gearing up to unveil Nokia 9 in early 2018; however, the site did not confirm an exact release date. The Nokia 7, which has only been made available in China, will not see a launch this year either, the site added.

The site attributes HMD Global's decision to launch the smartphones in early 2018 to Nokia 7 stock-related decisions and component availability for Nokia 9. In other words, the company wants to ensure it has enough in stock before moving ahead with the launch. Nokia 7 has been selling very well in China.

Nokia 9 has been floating around the rumor mill for some time now. The device has also been subject to multiple leaks that hint at an edge to edge 3D glass display, coupled with a virtually bezel-less design.

Moreover, the device is expected to pack 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB ROM, under the hood. It will come with IP68 certification, which suggests Nokia 9 will be dust and liquid resistance.

It will sport a fingerprint scanner just under the rear-mounted camera. In European markets, Nokia 9 is expected to come bearing a price tag of EUR 749, which roughly converts to $891.

Meanwhile, a new Nokia phone might be on the verge of hitting the store shelves if some recently surfaced leaks are anything to go by. While the upcoming high-end Nokia 9 has been leaked on several occasions, very little has been reported about the upcoming mid-level Nokia devices. That being said, a device bearing model number TA-1041 has been spotted on GFXBench, and PocketNow believes it could be the long-rumored follow-up to the Nokia 5.

The leaked handset is expected to come bearing a Nokia 5 (2018), Nokia 5 Plus or a completely different moniker. According to the GFXBench listing, it will have a 5.2-inch screen with a Full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Under the hood, the device might pack an octa-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630 SoC, which will be paired with 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage space. This is a considerable upgrade from 16GB of internal space.

On the photography front, it will have a 16MP camera on the back, and a 5MP front shooter for the selfie addicts. It's worth noting that the Nokia 5 boasts a more generous 8MP front snapper, which is comparatively better than what its alleged successor is expected to come with. The device is expected to run Android 7.1.1 out of the box.
