'Fast & Furious 9': Vin Diesel Teases Return of Jordana Brewster's Mia
Jordana Brewster is coming back to the "Fast & Furious" franchise. Recently, producer and star Vin Diesel teased the appearance of Mia in the still-untitled follow up to this year's "Fate of the Furious."
Brewster's Mia, of course, is the wife of Brian O'Conner, the character played by the late Paul Walker. Her last appearance in the franchise was in "Furious 7" but since Walker's death (and Brian's goodbye), Mia has not been a part of the team's adventures.
However, that is about to change. During a Facebook Live (via EW), Diesel revealed that he is working on a "top secret" mission involving Brewster and "Fast & Furious 6" director Justin Lin.
"It's a three-point shot that made 9 and 10 incredible," the actor said upon revealing the "Fast & Furious 6" director. "You wanted 9 and 10 to be incredible. We've heard your concerns about the saga and where it needs to arrive in its final chapters."
And then, he revealed his on-screen sister, Brewster. "You're about to see [Brewster] in the upcoming chapters of the 'Fast [& Furious] universe," he teased.
Mia's appearance in "Fast & Furious 9" is kind of tricky because the character is married to Brian. In "Furious 7," the box office-breaking hit, Brian said goodbye to Diesel's Dominic Torreto and the life they used to live.
In "Fate of the Furious," there was a brief mention of Brian and the more peaceful life he now lives with Mia. However, Brewster is still positive that there is still a spot left for her in the future of the franchise.
"It doesn't mean that the door is closed forever," she said in an interview with Fox News earlier this year. "So I haven't said goodbye. Not yet."
The "Fast & Furious 9" release date has been moved to 2020 to make way for the upcoming solo spin-off featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Agent Luke Hobbes. "Fast & Furious 10" is still set to open in 2021 in theaters worldwide.
